Division II : Arrangements Rules

1. All roses must be outdoor garden grown and of high quality.

2. Roses must be dominant flower in all arrangements.

3. Roses must be correctly named and listed on entry tag.

4. “AG” (“Arranger Grown”) must be written on the entry tag if roses are arranger grown so the entry will be eligible for the ARS Medal Certificate.

5. Only Miniature and Mini-Floras may be used in miniature designs.

6. One entry per exhibitor is allowed in each class, but an exhibitor may enter as many classes as desired.

7. Accessories, flowers other than roses, and dried and/or treated dried plant material are allowed unless prohibited by the schedule.

8. A card of intent may be included with an arrangement as an explanation of the Arranger’s interpretation of the theme or class title.

9. An arrangement incorrectly placed will be judged in the class in which it is placed.

10. All exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor.

11. No one but the exhibitor may touch or move an arrangement. However, in extreme circumstances, if all efforts to locate the arranger have failed, the arrangement chairman may carefully move an arrangement.

12. The TVRS will not be responsible for exhibits. Care for the arrangements will be provided to the best of the society’s ability. TVRS cannot, however, assume any responsibility for any loss or damage to property.

13. Reservations are required for all arrangements and requests must be received by Thursday, May 1. Please email reservation request to temecularosefestival@live.com or, for those without email access, phone Lenore Vogel at (951) 698-6765.

14. Arrangements must be in place and ready for judging by 9:45 a.m. on Saturday.

15. Arrangements may not be worked on in the show area. Care must be taken in placement so as not to disturb other arrangements.

16. The Awards Ceremony will be on Sunday, May 4, 3:30 p.m.

17. All arrangements must be left in place until 4 p.m. Arrangements left in place after 4:30 p.m. will be displayed as part of TVRS Flowers for Friends Community Outreach.

18. A novice arranger is an exhibitor who has never won a blue ribbon in the arrangement section of an ARS rose show.

19. Arrangements score card (all classes):

►      Conformance - 15 points

•       naming of roses

•       conformance of type of design

•       other specific requirements

►      Design - 30 points

•       balance, dominance, contrast

•       rhythm, proportion, scale

►      Perfection of the Rose(s) - 30 points

•       including condition of all plant material

►      Creativity & Expressiveness - 15 points

►      Distinction - 10 points

•       Unique, sets the design apart, superiority in every respect, includes technical execution/construction.

►      Disqualifications:

•       Roses not outdoor grown.

•       Artificial plant materials.

►      Penalty:

•       Use of painted or dyed fresh plant material.

•       Use of live creatures.

•       Use of material on state conservation list.

•       Use of country flags.

Best of Show Trophy

Section A. Traditional Arrangement

Class 1 - Bouchard Gardens, (a mass).

Class 2 - Spicy or Not, (a line-mass).

Class 3 - Gold Coast, (a line).

Section B. Modern Arrangement

Class 4 - Cold Fairyland, Antartica (modern).

Class 5 – MOMA, Museum of Modern Art (abstract).

Class 6 - Haight-Ashbury, (freestyle).

Section C. Oriental Manner

Class 7 - Mt. Fuji, (in a tall container).

Class 8 - Thai Chai, Teahouse drink of black tea, spices, honey & coconut (in a low container).

Class 9 - Bonsai, (freestyle).

Section D. Miniature Traditional

Class 10 - Maori Warriors, (line). Not to exceed 5” in height, width or depth.

Class 11 - Tahitian Vanilla, (line-mass). Greater than 5” not to exceed 7” in height, width or depth.

Class 12 - Fishes of the Deep, (mass). No less than 7”, not to exceed 10” in height, width or depth.

Section E. Miniature Modern

Class 13 - Ice Patches, (modern). Not to exceed 5” in height, width or depth.

Class 14 - Santa Monica Pier, (freestyle). Greater than 5” but not to exceed 10” in height, width or depth

Section F. Miniature Oriental Manner

Class 15 - Chinese Opera, (in a low container).

Class 16 – Kendo, Japanese martial art (the way of the sword) ( in a tall container).

Section G. Judges Arrangements

Arranger’s Choice (note type of design on entry card.)

Class 17 - Ring of Fire, (standard design).

Class 18 - Pebble Beach, (miniature design). Not to exceed 10” in height, width or depth.

Section H. Novice Arrangement

Class 19 – Surfing, (standard arrangement).

Class 20 – Pearls, (mini arrangement).
